to Friends of Red Bud Isle!
Red Bud Isle is a 13 acre off-leash dog park situated on a peninsula surrounded by Lady Bird Lake. The park is part of the Austin Parks & Recreation Department’s Lady Bird Lake Corridor system of parks and is located within the West Austin Neighborhood Group.
Friends of Red Bud Isle was formed in April 2007 at an Austin Parks Foundation “It’s My Park Day” event by Bern Abplanalp & Nadene Morning.
The volunteer group works with the Austin Parks & Recreation Department, Austin Parks Foundation and others to continually improve Austin’s Best Dog Park!
More Parking on the Way?
Austin Parks & Recreation has included Red Bud Isle in their request for funding in the proposed bond issue later this year.
If we want this to happen, we have to make our voice heard. The City relies on citizen input in the Bond Allocation Process to determine which projects they will push for inclusion in the bond issue.
“Thank you for the inquiry about the PARD Needs Assessment. Below is the detailed scope we provided during the bond development process:”
Red Bud Isle – General Park Improvements ($1.5M)
Implement park improvements that may include but not necessarily be limited to: shoreline improvements, modest parking lot expansion, site improvements, parking/pedestrian circulation improvements, general landscape improvements (invasive species removal, native plantings, irrigation, etc.), site furnishings and signage, infrastructure/utility upgrades. The parking lot is currently undersized to meet the increasing demand, though increases will be modest (additional stalls along existing access aisles). Parking is being discouraged along Red Bud Trail putting further pressure upon the internal parking lot. Actual vehicular access and/or parking improvements are contingent upon the possible street/bridge project on Red Bud Trail under Public Works (project ID 9684.003).
